Portable Solar Panels Watts

Can one use a small AC unit to cool tent? How?

Hi,

I bought a portable solar panel with battery/invertor that has total capacity of 1800 Watts… but for continuous use… in full sun… one must not pull more that 90 Watts at a given time. That way the unit will not shut off after a few hours.

I bought a 5000 BTU window AC from Home Depot for $99.00 (Zenith)… but I was told by the manufactures (of solar unit) it would only run my AC for about 90 minute to 2 hours when solar panel is in full sun. The quesion is… Does anyone know of a smaller unit that could pull less wattage so .. I could have longer cool time?

Thank you!,
Carol

Sorry, but a 5,000 BTU window unit is about as small as you can get for a unit that has a compressor in it.Normally a 5,000 BTU unit draws about 1200 watts with the compressor running. When the unit cycles or it reaches the desired room temperature the compressor shuts off leaving only the blower fan running at approx. 20 to 30 watts. In order for your unit to run a min. of 90 minutes the compressor would need to cycle approx. every 5 minutes.
