Solar Panel Heat Exchangers
When building solar thermal panels what is best? Single Double or Triple glazing? Wood as a frame material?
or metal? Is there a long term problem with outgassing from wood? How hot can a panel actually get inside if the heat exchanger is not functioning. I noticed styrofoam is NOT recommended as an insulation material as it can melt? Much insulation is needed? 2, 4, 6 inches? Fiberglass or polyisocyanurate foam?
imagine how hot your car can get sitting in the sun with the windows closed and increase that because you will have more effective window space.
more glazing is better than less, but it adds to the cost and weight.
wood is a better insulator than metal and easier to work with. it is also available in realistic sizes. common thicknesses are more rigid than the equivalent strengths in metals.
