DC to AC solar panels, help me?
Hello, If I have a 12V 40W solar panel , how many watts would it produce if I plug the output in a 120V AC inverter?
40W – the “available power” doesn’t change.
If the panel can only produce 40W maximum, then you can convert it to whatever voltage you like – but you won’t get any more POWER. (POWER is a product of Voltage X Current, so if you “up” the voltage ten times upto 120V then the available current will fall by the same ratio. Note these are all ideal cases where your AC/DC convertor is 100% efficient (it certainly won’t be), and the solar panels are in full sunlight.)
